Two minutes from the calm, clear water of Ocotal Beach, Villa de Aves is the fully renovated one. Crisp white interiors, marble showers, and a designer kitchen fill this two-story villa in the lush Vista Ocotal community. Three queen bedrooms, an office with a sofa bed, and three baths sleep eight, all with AC. Grill on your private terrace, read in the hammock, float in the palm-shaded pool, snorkel right off the beach. Pura Vida, with better counters.

The space

Some villas in Vista Ocotal have the location. Villa de Aves has the location and the renovation. Everything inside this two-story, three-bedroom villa has been redone in a clean, modern style: white oak-look cabinetry, quartz counters, marble-tiled showers, and art from local Costa Rican artists. Ocotal Beach, with some of the calmest, clearest swimming and snorkeling water in Guanacaste, is a two-minute walk down the lane.

THE LIVING SPACE
The main floor opens up the moment you step in. Ceilings soar over the living area, where a deep, comfortable sofa faces the garden through sliding glass doors and the staircase winds up along wrought-iron railings. Bold orchid and hummingbird artwork keeps things colorful. There's AC down here too, plus ceiling fans, because afternoon naps are a legitimate vacation activity.

THE KITCHEN
This kitchen got the full treatment. Quartz counters run wall to wall under crisp white cabinetry, with a stainless package that includes a full range, dishwasher, microwave, and a side-by-side fridge with water and ice in the door. Three woven-back stools pull up to the breakfast bar, and the hardwood dining table handles dinner for the group. Cook the day's catch or just keep the coffee flowing. Either way, it works beautifully.

THE BEDROOMS
All three bedrooms have queen beds, their own air conditioning, ceiling fans, and a full bathroom close at hand, so nobody draws the short straw. There's also an office with a sofa bed, so the villa sleeps eight when the whole crew comes along. One bedroom opens through sliding glass doors to a private balcony with a hammock strung and waiting. The second has a striking palm-print feature wall, its own TV, and a reading chair. The third is bright and serene with hummingbird artwork and generous built-in closets. Each of the three bathrooms is finished in marble-look tile with a glass walk-in shower and modern vanities, including one with a double sink.

THE OUTDOOR LIVING
Downstairs, the covered terrace is set up for real outdoor living: a gas BBQ, a dining table with bench seating, and a lounger for whoever claims it first. Upstairs, one balcony has that hammock and the other has a hanging rattan chair that might be the best reading spot in the house. Beyond the railing it's all green: palms, flowering trees, and the birds that give the villa its name. There's also an in-unit washer and dryer to keep the beach towels in rotation.

THE POOL
A short stroll through the community brings you to the pool, a big, brilliant blue one shaded by rows of silver Bismarck palms, with loungers, an open-air rancho, and walking paths winding through the manicured grounds. It's quiet, it's gorgeous, and it never feels crowded.

THE BEACH AND BEYOND
Ocotal Beach is a secluded dark-sand cove about two minutes away on foot, known for calm, crystal-clear water and snorkeling right off the sand. Father Rooster, the legendary beachfront bar and grill, sits right on the cove for fish tacos and sunset drinks. Playas del Coco, with its restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, and nightlife, is a five-minute drive.

CLUB AT COCO BAY (Additional Fee)
Guests may purchase a membership to The Club at Coco Bay, located minutes away. The Club features a large tropical pool with waterslide, lit tennis and pickleball courts, a full fitness center, yoga pavilion, spa, full-service restaurant, and private access to the Ocotal Beach Club on the beach. Membership is at an additional cost and not included in the rental rate.

The neighbourhood

Ocotal is the quiet one, and that's exactly the point. This small seaside community sits one bay south of Playas del Coco, wrapped around a secluded dark-sand cove where the water stays calm, clear, and swimmable nearly year-round. Snorkelers can wade in right off the beach and find fish within minutes, and Father Rooster, the beachfront restaurant everyone tells you about, serves cold drinks and fresh seafood steps from the sand. When you want more action, Playas del Coco is a five-minute drive: dozens of restaurants, beach bars, supermarkets, pharmacies, dive shops, and the departure point for Catalina Islands snorkeling trips, sunset sails, and world-class sport fishing. Liberia International Airport is about 30 minutes by car, so you're on the beach almost as soon as you land.

Interaction with guests

Villa de Aves is managed by the team at Expat Properties CR. We live and work in Playas del Coco and Ocotal, and we're quick to answer when you need a restaurant tip, a tour booked, or anything at all during your stay. You'll have our local numbers, and we can arrange airport transfers, private chefs, and tours.

Other things to note

Ocotal Beach has calm, clear water that's great for swimming and snorkeling. It's a dark volcanic sand cove, beautiful and much quieter than the main Coco strip. The Club at Coco Bay membership (pool with waterslide, tennis, pickleball, gym, spa, restaurant, and Ocotal Beach Club access) is optional and available at additional cost.
